    • Last week Friday, the Yew Chung International School of Beijing’s youngest learners stunned teachers and parents through song and dance at their annual Christmas Concert. Just like last year, students in our Early Childhood Education (ECE) Programme were clad in Christmas colours and performed traditional Christmas carols and other festive songs to an eager audience of family members awaiting in our school’s Auditorium.

“Each year we give children the opportunity to sing some of their favourite songs – including some Christmas favourites. Some songs were sung together and some by smaller class groups.” , explained ECE Coordinator, Maryanne Harper.

Although the songs and dance choreography were simpler for the participants from all of our ECE classes compared to their older peers, their enthusiasm and hard work was the same and still reflected in all of their performances.

The Christmas Concert, in its essence, is “Focused on the joy of performing, developing confidence on stage and of sharing the magic of Christmas together.”, said Mrs. Harper. Performance, music and art are areas of importance at our School and this Christmas concert further reinforced that.

Santa also made an appearance and sang songs with the group, whilst his elves left gifts in all our students’ lockers. This was followed by a Shared Lunch to enjoy with all the parents, teachers and their classmates in the ECE Learning Communities. The feast consisted of everyone’s favourite foods such as fruits, baozi, pizza and cupcakes to kick off the festive spirit.

“Sharing celebrations with the children is an important aspect of our learning and we thank our families for joining us last week for our ECE Christmas Concert and Shared lunch. This was indeed a proud moment for us all, as we looked on with admiration as our little performers shined on stage!”  concluded Mrs Harper.
