As an IB World School, we are proud to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as part of our international curriculum. Furthermore, we are the only school in China to have received the Cambridge Award for Excellence in Education.
At Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing), we are renowned for offering one of the most progressive and globally-minded programmes of international education in China.
YCIS Beijing is considered a leading international school in Beijing. The school's unique multicultural and bilingual approach to education is recognised globally, and is just one of the features that sets the school apart from others.
At the root of the Yew Chung International School of Beijing philosophy is the blend of two cultures, those of the East and West. We believe that in order to become competently bilingual, the real essence of a culture must not just be understood but truly valued. To this end, our Western and Chinese Co-Principals jointly lead their school. They represent the union of the East and West working closely alongside one another.
Our unique Co-Teaching Model is implemented throughout Early Childhood and Primary year levels, which best supports the development of bilingual and cross-cultural skills. Our vibrant Chinese Studies course, whose design is based upon extensive research, is integrated into the school curricula. Enriched with annual excursions to locations across China, the programme develops students' cultural and historical appreciation of as well as a comprehensive portfolio of knowledge about their host country.
An experienced cohort of educators works in partnership to provide a well-rounded, holistic learning approach for every subject and age group. The result is a unique programme drawing the best practices from around the world not restricted to a single national curriculum.
The attainment of a strong grasp of soft skills is very much needed in the workplace today and will gain only greater importance for the next generation. Our researchers ensure our education model brings opportunities to the classroom to hone skills like:
The ultimate objective is for our graduates to gain the ability to succeed in an ever-changing globalised world throughout their adulthood.
The first Yew Chung School was established in 1932 by Madam Tsang Chor-hang, with a mission of making China stronger through education. The school was made up of only kindergarten-aged students. Even during its humblest beginnings, the passionate Madam Tsang held a profoundly advanced vision which became the root of Yew Chung's philosophy today.
Over subsequent decades, the breadth of education grew steadily to provide an equally enlightened education model for students from infancy all the way through to Secondary graduation. This development evolved and expanded to not just bring international education to students, but also serve as a pioneer for leading teaching methods. As the world has evolved and witnessed global changes, Yew Chung International Schools (YCIS) have remained a constant in international education and continue to be greatly sought after today. Each School is internationally accredited and authorised by international examination boards.
One of YCIS's signature calling cards is its commitment to the development of each student's moral code that will help them to make correct choices later in life. From Early Childhood to Upper Secondary, every YCIS student realises the importance of helping others in order to work towards creating a better world.
These objectives of our Character Education Programme, emphasised in all daily lessons, weekly assemblies, and other activities beyond the classroom walls, are essential to the YCIS education and the creation of global citizens.
