    • U11 Junior ISAC Badminton Tournament

On February 21st, ten budding athletes from Yew Chung International School of Beijing took part in the Under 11 Junior ISAC Badminton Tournament at CISB.

Eight schools took part in the competition, totalling 80 competitors.  Of the five boys that competed in the “ladder style” tournament, two made it to the final single elimination bracket, just missing out on medal positions.

Of our five girls, three made it to the final bracket and two of our girls secured 1st and 2nd place! Our warmest congratulations to the medallists Jenny Yu and Hanna Lin.

Mr Casey Fanning, who accompanied the team with coach Mr Leslie Howe, commented:

“We are so proud of Jenny and Hanna. They both played extremely well, and carried themselves with a superb amount of sportsmanship and charity, even while playing against each other in the final match. Our hats off to all of the participants, and our thanks for the parents who came to support. Go Scorpions!”

      U19 ACAMIS Basketball Tournament, Qingdao

Two weeks ago our U19 girls basketball team headed to Qingdao for the last tournament of the season.

It was a tough three-day tournament in which each school played each other, but our girls didn’t let their tiredness show.

By the last day, the girls had battled their way into the semi-finals. Their semi-final match was extremely close and when the clock ran down they lost by just one point. For the third place play-off, it was a one point lead that secured them the victory and a hard-earned bronze medal.

Alicia Seng in Year 10 commented, “When we won, Mr McEwan leaped up into the air with a huge grin on his face. The boys and our team jumped up and ran onto the court to hug us. Our faces were red and wet with tears of joy and almost all of us lost our voices shouting. We were so happy to finish in third place and bring back a trophy and good memories. We couldn’t have had a better end to our season.”

      Congratulations to our star players!
