On the morning of May 15, Dr Esther Chan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (K-12 Education) of Yew Chung Yew Wah (YCYW) Education Network, led a delegation comprising senior management and administrative teams from Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) and Yew Wah International Education School of Beijing (YWIES Beijing) on a special visit to the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China Beijing Office. They held in-depth discussions with Ms Waiyin Yuen, Deputy Director of the Beijing Office, on deepening cultural and educational cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong, with the shared objective of advancing collaborative development between the two regions.
During the meeting, Deputy Director Yuen and Dr Chan explored key initiatives to enhance educational excellence and facilitate cross-cultural exchange. Key topics included the promotion of student exchange and internship programmes, measures to support Hong Kong families in Beijing with work, living, and education, as well as the expansion of international curricula and innovative pedagogical practices. The emphasis was placed on the introduction and development of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) programme, a subject of significant interest to Hong Kong parents residing in Beijing. Dr Chan elaborated on YCYW’s plans to implement the HKDSE curriculum at YCIS Beijing starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, underscoring the initiative’s potential to provide Hong Kong students in the Mainland of China with a broader range of high-quality international education and enrollment pathways.
Deputy Director Yuen commended YCYW’s development and contributions to education. She noted the increasing integration between the two cities and highlighted the growing importance of diversified educational options for Hong Kong families in Beijing.
The Beijing Office stands committed to promoting cultural and educational exchanges between the two regions. Dr Chan expressed that the multicultural environment of YCIS Beijing and the integrated curriculum of YWIES Beijing can facilitate multi-dimensional and deeper cultural exchanges. She emphasised the importance of nurturing Hong Kong’s youth by understanding the nation’s flourishing development, which strengthens cohesion and injects sustained momentum into the educational collaboration between Beijing and Hong Kong, elevating it to new heights.
