    A Day of Double Celebration

This past Thursday, 23rd April, we were truly honoured to welcome Ms. Geraldine McCafferty, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in China, to our school. The date was especially meaningful – coinciding with both St. George’s Day (England’s national day) and UNESCO’s Shakespeare Day. It was a perfect moment to celebrate British heritage, language, and the arts, right here on our campus.

Warmth and Wonder: Meeting Our Youngest Learners

Ms. McCafferty began her visit with a tour of our school, led by proud student ambassadors and senior staff. Her first stop was our Year 1 classroom, where the children were overcome with excitement to meet a special guest from the Embassy.

Ms. McCafferty sat down with our youngest learners and read them the classic British story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen.  The children listened with wide eyes, joined in with the famous refrains, and later delighted in asking her questions. It was a joyful, heart-warming moment that showed how stories can bridge any distance.

Honouring the Bard: A Shakespeare Showcase to Remember

Following her time with Year 1, Ms. McCafferty joined us for a very special event: our student Shakespeare Showcase- Myths and Monsters. For the past two weeks, our IGCSE students have been working intensively with a professional actor, Jethro Skinner, from the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) – an experience that has deepened their understanding of language, performance, and character.

We were deeply honoured that Ms. McCafferty agreed to give the opening words for the showcase. In her speech, she praised the students’ dedication and spoke of the enduring power of Shakespeare’s work to connect cultures – from Stratford-upon-Avon to our own school in China.

    A Day to Remember

The visit was a celebration of learning, creativity, and the strong cultural bridges between the UK and China. Moments like these remind us how lucky we are to bring world-class experiences and distinguished guests directly to our students.
