    • During the final week of the 2015 – 2016 academic year, YCIS Beijing Lower Secondary students enjoyed a myriad of engaging activities designed to showcase what they learned over the course of the year as well as blow off some steam post-exam season. On Monday, June 20, our students had the opportunity to engage in outdoor activity field trips, getting to try their hand at either water sports or rock climbing.

Those who chose to participate in water sports were taken to the Olympic Rowing Park in Shunyi. Students had their choice of paddleboards, canoes, wind surfers, and small schooners as they enjoyed their fun in the sun on a bright clear day. For those who preferred a little more a challenge, indoor rock climbing was a popular choice. Students tested their metal on a variety of rock faces, with some students even managing to summit the extremely dangerous vertical hang!

These Lower Secondary field trips were not only extremely fun but also required students to improve their ability to work as a team as well as to get outside and enjoy some physical activity. While there was an element of controlled risk, all students enjoyed the activities safely. On the way back to YCIS Beijing, buses were abuzz with students comparing the heights that they were able to climb and length of time they managed to stay dry while paddle boarding.
