    • Much loved around the globe for his provocative plays and sonnets that mirror the drama of human predicament, English poet and playwright William Shakespeare features in school curriculums worldwide. People from all walks have been to the theatre to enjoy his plays from Romeo and Juliet to Macbeth and Hamlet and demand for his printed works is incessant.

Yet, despite his renown, little is known about his life. Shakespeare’s birthday is thought to be 23 April, based on records of his baptism on 26 April 1564 in the English town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Now, 23 April is officially ‘Shakespeare Day’ to honour his outstanding contribution to English literature.

Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) would like to take this opportunity to wish parents, students, partners and friends a Happy Shakespeare Day! May our students continue to revel in his penmanship.
