Some of the best international schools in Beijing will be at the JingKids International School Expo (JISE) on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25. Our academic and school leadership teams will be on hand to shed light on the YCIS ethos and curriculum.
Below are some of the representatives you will meet.School Leadership Team
James SweeneyWestern Vice PrincipalMr James Sweeney was appointed YCIS Beijing Western Vice Principal in August 2020.
Mr Sweeney earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Plymouth and a master’s degree from the University of Worcester. Mr Sweeney has taught in his home country England and later in South Korea before moving to Beijing in 2015.
In his time at YCIS, he taught and held the position of team leader for a variety of year levels. He was instrumental in conceptualising and implementing the Learning Community approach as well as aligning the Primary School curriculum.
Rae WangChinese Vice PrincipalDr Rae Wang came on board as Chinese Vice Principal in August 2019.
Dr Wang holds a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Beijing Normal University and a master’s degree in Sociology from the London School of Economics. Dr Wang gained her doctoral degree in Education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2018.
She has over 10 years of teaching and managerial experience at different levels, with three years’ service in YCIS Chongqing as a Co-Teacher and Course Advisor. She joined YCIS Beijing in 2018 as the Acting Chinese Vice Principal.
Fanny DuSchool Business ManagerMs Fanny Du joined YCIS Beijing in 2018.
Ms Fanny Du is the School Business Manager at YCIS Beijing. She holds a Diploma in Hospitality Management from Beijing Zhenhau Tourism School and has nearly 20 years of experience in the hospitality and property management industries, having held various managerial positions.
Her extensive experience has provided her with strong knowledge and understanding of operations, including strategic planning and development, team management, cost control and budgets.
Jane Martuneac KangWestern Primary CoordinatorMs Jane Martuneac Kang has been with YCIS Beijing for 12 years and was appointed Western Primary Coordinator at the beginning of the 2020 school year.
She has an M.Ed in Educational Leadership, Organisation and Policy from the University of Illinois, with extensive experience in leadership roles. She has helped develop the Learning Community approach that is used in our Primary system at YCIS Beijing. Ms Kang has a comprehensive understanding of the YCIS ethos and values and co-authored the YCIS Learning Community Guidebook.
Jonathan MellenSecondary Coordinator and University Guidance Officer
American Mr Jonathan Mellen has been part of YCIS Beijing for 12 years and has established himself as our school’s University Guidance expert. In his role he supports students and parents in finding the right fit post-secondary through parent workshops, webinars and on campus support regarding which universities students should apply to and the application process.
He was appointed Secondary Coordinator at the beginning of the semester and is responsible for supporting IBDP students in their pursuit of the diploma.
