Last Friday, Yew Chung and Yew Wah schools linked up across the country to celebrate our annual Founder’s Day.
As part of the celebrations, CEO and School Supervisor, Dr Betty Chan, paid a visit to YCIS Shanghai, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. She gave a speech to the whole Foundation via video link and took the opportunity to discuss the recent establishment of the Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) in Hong Kong.
Dr Chan was joined in Shanghai by Professor Paul Yip Kwok-wah, Chairman of the Yew Wah International Education Foundation, students from the five Shanghai campuses, government officials, staff, alumni and families.
YCIS Beijing students and those from other Yew Chung and Yew Wah campuses in Hong Kong, Beijing, Chongqing, Qingdao, Guangzhou, Tongxiang, Lingang came together via a live video link to listen to Dr Chan.
In her presentation, Dr Chan highlighted the journey Yew Chung has taken since its humble beginning when her mother opened a small Hong Kong kindergarten in 1932, to now being present in 20 locations across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and the US, and offering four-year bachelor degree programmes through the YCCECE.
After her presentation, YCIS Beijing was allocated 80 seconds to greet the other campuses via live video feed. Kitted out in bright house t-shirts, our students stomped their feet, clapped and waved and unfurled a huge flag emblazoned with our new dimensions of learning. We also streamed a 60 second video produced by Jiwon Baek (Y13), in which the history of the school was told through beautiful animations.
Founder’s Day is a highlight of the school calendar, uniting our diverse worldwide community through a sense identity and pride as Yew Chung and Yew Wah students.
The rest of the day at YCIS Beijing was occupied by sports, activities, games and team building. A brilliant way to celebrate our Foundation’s pioneering history and bright future.
