    • One of the traditions when joining the Yew Chung International School of Beijing family is that students, staff and teachers are sorted into one of five House Teams – the Yellow Tigers, the Red Phoenixes, the Blue Mustangs, the Purple Monkeys, and the Green Dragons.

In this week’s House Team introduction, we welcome Jonathan and Ethen Mellen from Team Dragons.

      The Fire Breathers

Our House Team is the Dragons. We’re green and we’re mean! Our House Chant, though simple, strikes fear into the hearts of our competitors – “D-R-A-G-O-N-S!  D-R-A-G-O-N-S!”

Dragons are the most powerful animal in China. They’re both the animal of legends, and also the animal that everyone would choose if they could pick any pet. Dragons are also the only animal that has both Eastern and Western features and is accepted in the folklore of both cultures.

We’re the best because what other animal can breathe fire?

      The House Cup System

Used both as method of positive reinforcement and to boost school spirit, the House System allows members of the YCIS Beijing community to identify with a specific group of classmates, teachers and colleagues across all year levels and departments. Throughout the year, House Teams are able to collaborate in many types of ways, receiving House Points for accomplishments in sports, visual and performing arts projects, maintaining good behavioral standards, and for academic successes.

The House System also fosters a sense of identity within the YCIS Beijing community. It provides a great way to encourage cooperation as a team towards a common goal, while positively reinforcing the guiding statements and mission of the Yew Chung Education Foundation.
