    • This year’s sixth annual Hong Kong International Painting Competition saw YCIS Beijing Primary and Lower Secondary School students submit their artwork to be judged among thousands of other entrees from around the globe. With such fierce competition, we are very proud to announce that a whopping 12 of our little artists were able to receive honorable mention certificates awarded personally by the competition judges!

Organised by Heifer International in order to raise funds aimed at ending world hunger and simultaneously showcase the artistic abilities of students across the globe, the theme of this year’s competition was titled “Enjoy the Little Things.” Judges received thousands of entrees from over 400 schools worldwide. Each student was tasked with creating a piece of art that expressed their inner self, their imagination, and their positive attitude while appreciating and enjoying the quiet beauty of nature and the people around them.

As the competition only hands out 60 honorable mentions each year, we couldn’t be prouder of our YCIS Beijing students who were able to take home a massive 20% of this year’s awards. A big congratulations to the following students for taking home the certificates (as well as prizes valued at HKD 1000!).

We would like to thank all students who participated in this year’s competition as well as Mr. Johan Swart, our Primary and Lower Secondary Art Specialist, for helping organise and guide our students’ submissions. Mr. Swart recently wrote an enlightening “Teacher Talks” article detailing the psychological and sociological benefits that studying art imparts on young learners which can be read here.
