Earlier this month, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) celebrated yet another smashing Global Community Day (GCD)! GCD is an open-air celebration of the talent of our students, the diversity of our families, our community-wide relations and, this year, the landmark 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. We welcomed our community of families, staff and friends onto our beautiful downtown campus on a warm, sunny Saturday in May for an 11th consecutive year of GCD fun and charity fundraising.
Just as every year, our students played a crucial role in hosting the festivities lending their talents to the day, but this year they added a couple of new elements. The Lower Secondary Learning Community launched their first ever wellness conference during this year’s GCD, and our primary school students set up market stalls throughout the event for the small businesses they’d created in the lead up to GCD during Enterprise Week! The visiting public was definitely well served by our ambitious students.
From the eclectic selection of cuisine, including Russian, Indian, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Japanese, to name but a few. To the abundance of fun activities and captivating performances, there was truly something for everyone, and all ages were catered to.
The jewel of our annual school calendar for YCIS Beijing families and staff alike, GCD never disappoints. It was indeed a pleasure to once again bring together the YCIS Beijing network, welcome old and new faces, and honour the cross-cultural bonds that make up the YCIS Beijing Global Community.
We’re sending a special thanks to Amber Dang, our Community Relations Officer for all of her efforts in organising such a magical day. A big thank you to Rachel George, Head of Student Support, and Alana Martin, our Year 6-8 Learning Community Leader for all of their efforts above and beyond expectations in helping our students organise and launch their wellness conference. And a heartfelt thanks to all the administrative departments, teachers, staff, parents and vendors who made the event possible. Thank you also to our generous sponsors and everyone who made donations to benefit our charity, Seeds of Hope.
