Message From Our Senior Leadership Team

Welcome to Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing).

The Yew Chung Education Foundation is based in Hong Kong and is governed by an Executive Board operating under the leadership of our Director, Dr Betty Chan.

A common Mission and Vision Statement, along with a Foundation-wide Strategic Plan, guides all areas of activity and establishes the key direction, core values, and overarching policies covering the many areas of Foundation activity. This includes a growing number of YCIS and YWIES schools, including locations in:

• Hong Kong
• Shanghai
• Beijing
• Chongqing
• Qingdao
• Silicon Valley, USA

Each school, while operating under the auspice of the Executive Board, is encouraged to develop its own unique character, learning programmes, facilities and personnel, and to respond to the local needs of its community, in keeping with the Foundation’s Mission and Vision. The responsibility for the management of the school rests with a School Leadership Team which is itself directly accountable to the Executive Board. In the case of YCIS Beijing, the School Leadership Team consists of The Chinese and Western Co-Principals, and the Business Manager.

While the Co-Principals’ primary focus is on the learning programmes, student welfare and the leadership of the academic staff, and the Business Manager exercises oversight of non-academic areas; all three function as a unified team with overall responsibility for all areas of school operation.

YCIS Beijing is registered with the Ministry of Education as a School for Children of Foreign Nationals. It is accredited by the Council of International Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the International Baccalaureate Organisation, and is an authorised provider of the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education. We are also accredited by the local education authorities.

Christine Xu

Christine Xu

Christine Xu joined YCIS Beijing in 1997 and has been the Chinese Co-Principal of the school since 2008. Prior to her Co-Principal appointment, Ms Xu worked as a Chinese Co-Teacher and Chinese Curriculum Co-ordinator at YCIS Beijing. She was also appointed Co-ordinator of Chinese Department in 2006. As an incredibly experienced teacher she has taught external Chinese examinations in IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme.

Ms Xu holds a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Literature and a master’s degree in Education Management from Beijing Normal University.

Noel Thomas

Noel Thomas

Noel Thomas has been the Western Co-Principal of YCIS Beijing since 2014, having previously held the position of Academic Director of the Cambridge International Curriculum Centre at Beijing Normal University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Jurisprudence and a Diploma of Education from Monash University, and has also obtained a master’s degree in Educational Administration at the University of New England.

He has taught Politics, Legal Studies, History, Economics, Accounting and Information Technology in a number of Australian schools and has vast leadership experience across his 30 years of working in education including Director of Studies, Head of Planning and Development, Principal/CEO and Executive Director.

Jessica Wang

Jessica Wang

As a member of the School Leadership Team, Jessica Wang is responsible for managing all non-teaching activities at YCIS Beijing to ensure the provision of efficient and effective support services throughout the school.

Ms Wang received her master’s degree in International Management from the University of Southern Denmark and possesses over 15 years of experience in a variety of roles in independent schools across the UK and China. Prior to joining YCIS Beijing, she served as PA to the Headmaster and later as Head of HR at another prestigious school in Beijing. As one of the school’s founding members, she was instrumental in establishing its administrative structure.

Outside work, Ms Wang enjoys spending time with her family and travelling around the world, pursuing her keen interest in understanding different cultures.
