YCIS Beijing upholds a non-discriminatory policy and accepts applications from eligible students from Kindergarten, Primary through Secondary levels, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, economic or national background. However, we can only accept admissions for students who themselves and their parent(s) hold a passport or permanent residency from a foreign country, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan. In the case of permanent residency (green card) holders, permission must be obtained from the Beijing Education Commission before admission to YCIS Beijing.
Guardianship of Students
In accordance with local government requirements with regards to guardianship for students, YCIS Beijing may only accept students who are resident in Beijing with at least one parent or with an approved adult guardian. YCIS Beijing does not offer any boarding facilities for students.
Programme Placement
YCIS Beijing’s academic year runs from August until June, with two semesters. In cases where the academic school calendar in the original school is different from that of YCIS Beijing, student applications will be reviewed for the appropriate placement at the school. Based on a review of age and previous school records, the school will make the final decision as to the student’s year level and programme placement.
YCIS Beijing exercises a rolling admissions policy. In the IGCSE and IB year levels, there may be some limitation regarding acceptance of students to the programme at certain points in the academic calendar, as it relates to students’ previous learning and subjects covered, with relevance to the particular programme applied for.
Internal Transfer
All Yew Chung International Schools operate under the same educational philosophy, pedagogy and curricula. Our internal transfer policy allows families to apply for a transfer to any school in our network in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing and Qingdao in China and Silicon Valley in the USA. Internal transfer applicants are reviewed on a case by case basis and are given placement priority.
Special Education Needs
YCIS Beijing aims to assist children of foreign personnel as much as possible. However, there are limits to the range of services provided, resources obtainable, teacher and specialist expertise available in YCIS Beijing. For this reason, YCIS Beijing can only accept students with mild learning difficulties, i.e. those children who can work successfully in a regular classroom environment with minimum support.
The school reserves the right (in consultation with the parents) to review all prior school reports, recommendations, and external assessments, and conduct an interview to determine the student’s level of need/s. The school will only accept students whom we believe will be successful in the YCIS Beijing programme. Should a special educational need/s be identified after entrance (or a more serious need develops), the school reserves the right to review the placement.
