  • YCIS Beijing Parenting Workshop: 3 Tips for Raising an Optimistic Child

    On June 20, the Yew Chung International School of Beijing hosted one of its many regular informative free Parenting Workshops to parents, teachers, and members of the Beijing community, titled “The Optimist Child.” Presented by professional coach Caroline Wu Beloe, the seminar incorporated the teachings of world renowned childhood development specialist Dr Martin Seligman. Subject matter focused on how to foster an optimistic attitude in children of all ages by emphasizing not on a perceived ability to achieve, but rather on curbing feelings of inadequacies. Ms Beloe explains that by doing so, children are less likely to become prone to depression and also become more likely to more confident in their daily lives.

  • Secondary School’s Midsummer Night’s Success

    Yew Chung International School of Beijing’s Character Education Programme aims to teach students from a young age the value of charity and to highlight the virtues of altruistic contributions to society. The moral principles that we strive to instill in our children can be seen through the various charity work our students engage in throughout all year levels, culminating in their Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) projects. This year’s final CAS project had our Year 12 students hold a charity dinner and art auction, titled “A Midsummer Night’s Dinner,” which successfully raised over 4000 RMB for the YuHua orphanage for disabled children.

  • Enjoying the Little Things in this Year’s International Painting Competition

    This year’s sixth annual Hong Kong International Painting Competition saw YCIS Beijing Primary and Lower Secondary School students submit their artwork to be judged among thousands of other entrees from around the globe. With such fierce competition, we are very proud to announce that a whopping 12 of our little artists were able to receive honorable mention certificates awarded personally by the competition judges!
