GCD 2019: Fun Festivities & Photos
Earlier this month, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) celebrated yet another smashing Global Community Day (GCD)! GCD is an open-air celebration of the talent of our students, the diversity of our families, our community-wide relations and, this year, the landmark 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. We welcomed our community of families, staff and friends onto our beautiful downtown campus on a warm, sunny Saturday in May for an 11th consecutive year of GCD fun and charity fundraising.
Camping & Cultural Exchange
Last week at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing), we held summer camp seminars for parents of our Secondary School students. Hosted by visiting YCIS Silicon Valley International School Summer Camp Admissions Coordinators, Fiona Zheng and Dylan Sun, the sessions detailed the amazing opportunity for our Secondary School students to attend YCIS Silicon Valley’s International Student Summer Camp in the USA. Following the completion of the summer camp seminars, we sat down with Fiona and Dylan to discuss their fantastic summer camp and how the strength of our network of schools makes these special cross-cultural opportunities possible.
YCIS Beijing’s Tantalising Talent
Last Friday 17 May at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing), we put on our first annual talent show! Students from across our Primary School, with support from Theatre Teacher, Freda Humber and our Performing Arts Department staff, worked very hard to put on an impressive showing for parents, teachers, staffers and their peers. Hosted in the YCIS Beijing auditorium, the eclectic blend of high-energy performances had the rapt audience clapping and rocking in their seats throughout the show.
Celebrating Chinese Literacy Week
During the week of May 6-10, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) celebrated Chinese Literacy Week! Following the success of Chinese Literacy Week, we spoke with ECE & Primary Chinese Coordinator, April Peng about the role it plays at YCIS Beijing.Please introduce Chinese Literacy Week.Chinese Literacy Week is a celebration of Chinese language and culture, which allows our Primary School students an opportunity to demonstrate their bilingual and bicultural learning. The blending of Chinese and Western culture through the integrated teaching of Chinese language and principles with English and Western pedagogy are an integral part of our curriculum and what makes our school so unique.
Getting Down to Business: Enterprise Week at YCIS Beijing
Last week at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) was Enterprise Week! From 6-10 May, lessons were turned toward the theme of business operations, and all that entails. The Triple A’s of Our IIIP
At Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) we have an In-School Individual Instrument Programme (IIIP). We created this programme to ensure all of our students have the option to enrich their studies and lives with the benefits of musical education beyond our Years 1-3 violin programme. Amongst the many positives of our triple ‘I’ programme we’d like to highlight the following ‘triple A’ benefits: accreditation, access and affordability.
Taking the (Mental) Leap: A Mental Checklist for University
A big congratulations to all of the seniors of Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) who will graduate on June 6, 2019. Even though International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) results are not available until July, we have received 40 offers from universities around the world in places such as the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong and Beijing. The hard work and dedication of our students has paid off, and we are looking forward to the future as our students prepare for life at university.
Learning in the Park Series: Secondary School
Since opening its doors in 1995, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) has enjoyed the good fortune of being situated adjacent to Honglingjin Park. Educators at YCIS Beijing take full advantage of the school’s auspicious location, seeking out every opportunity to harness the natural beauty, wide open spaces and abundance of wildlife to enrich their lessons.
A Day for Champions!
Last week, on 2-3 May, primary school students at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) took part in our second annual school sports day. At YCIS Beijing our annual sports day is known as Champions Day. Activities for Champions Day were once again held on the campus of our sister school YWIES, in nearby Yizhuang. Unfortunately, due to a school holiday for YWIES students, we were unable to unite forces this year, but a great Champions Day was had none the less!
