JISAC U11 Volleyball Champions!
Yesterday, the Yew Chung International School of Beijing’s Under 11 Girls and Boys Volleyball Teams took part in the final round of JISAC (Junior International Schools Athletic Conference) Mini Volleyball Games of the Season. During the Under 11 games, both YCIS Beijing’s Teams gave brilliant performances against their counterparts from other renowned international schools in Beijing.
Shannon Speight, YCIS Beijing’s Athletics Coordinator and Primary PE Teacher, first explained what Mini Volleyball is: “It is a modified version regular volleyball. It is played on a smaller court, using a light weight ball, fewer players (3 vs. 3), and some modified rules.”
During the games, all players showed their commitment to working hard with their teammates as they pushed throughout the day of games. Emily Noordlander, YCIS Beijing’s Volleyball Coach, attributed this to the comradery displayed during matches “The girls were really supportive of each other; even with their tight schedule of eight 20-minute games in a row, they found time to go cheer for the other YCIS team”. The highlight of the day, for her, was the game against CISB where the girls won 29-27.
The boys also brought their A game according to Ms. Speight “Most of the matches went all the way to extra points/overtime, so the games were very close!” she said. This also gained them praise from other teams where they stated “that our team had the best sportsmanship and skill development of the tournament.”
The teams’ outstanding performances can also be attributed to the hard work and commitment of YCIS Beijing’s PE teachers and Coaches, including also Kevin Meng and Mike Warner, for helping the boys and girls achieve their overall results.
Well Scorpions and everyone involved. We are already looking forward to your next games!
