An Introduction to the YCIS Beijing Life Skills Programme
At the core of Yew Chung International School of Beijing’s Mission, Principles and Practices are nurturing and developing students’ potentials in all aspects of their school life. These may include academic, spiritual, physical, social, emotional, mental and intercultural awareness. At the end of the last academic year Vice-Principal & Head of Primary, James Sweeney announced to parents the addition of a new Life Skills Programme to the timetable from the start of the 2019 – 20 academic year.
The programme will be delivered to the whole school, from ECE to Year 13.
The introduction of this Life Skills Programme is our response to the evolving education landscape and the need for a more holistic approach to teaching and learning. We appreciate the benefits of this approach and the necessity for providing valuable skills to help students achieve wellness and career success. Below are some of the aspects that the programme will focus on:
Transitions: managing change and building resilience to deal with change.
Body and Health: through the knowledge and understanding of the body and health, developing a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
Identity: understanding and knowing what influences their personal qualities, attitudes, skills, attributes and achievements.
Personal Safety: understanding their rights and responsibilities and providing opportunities for authentic decision-making over matters that affect them
Relationships: knowledge and understanding of different types of relationships and the importance of developing and maintaining healthy relationships
Digital Citizenship: understating the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living and learning in an interconnected digital world and acting in ways which are safe, legal and ethical
To provide parents with a more comprehensive understanding of what the programme will entail, we recommend them all to attend the workshops planned at the beginning of the new school year when the Academic Leadership Team will share more information.
