YCIS Beijing had an African drumming demonstration by a local Beijing drumming group with parents and students participating. The workshop ran 30 minutes and included a demonstration for 10–15 minutes in which children could look, touch and play the drums. ECE invited parents and caregivers to join in the fun with their children. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience an aspect of the African culture and to connect with a style of music that they perhaps were previously not familiar with.
ECE held this event to highlight their general music themes and child’s interests in sounds from around the world. Students in ECE are offered a wide variety of speakers based on their interests. In the past YCIS Beijing has hosted professional pop-music signers, Chinese dance, and artists.
