December 19, 2011
The Early Childhood Education students at YCIS Beijing sang holiday carols and children’s songs with well-known pop singer Wu Qixian on December 16, 2011. A week before all ECE students performed in their Christmas Concert; Mr. Wu’s visit complemented a month of singing celebrations and learning about the performing arts.
In preparation for their concert, ECE students had been learning about different types of music and instruments. Each year level toured the YCIS Beijing Auditorium to familiarise themselves with being on stage and singing in front of an audience. Once a week for the past semester, the Head of Performing Arts visited each ECE class for specialist music learning and learning Christmas Concert songs in English and Chinese.
Mr. Wu’s visit provided a fitting opportunity to connect student’s performance on stage with music professions. Arriving with a guitar, Mr. Wu energised the ECE students who danced and sang in both English and Chinese. It was a wonderful bilingual exchange of songs as students enthusiastically sang their Christmas songs for Mr. Wu.
As a last song, Mr. Wu played one of his hits. YCIS Beijing ECE students were grateful for Mr. Wu’s visit and wished him Happy Holidays.
