On November 1, 2011 the male teachers of YCIS Beijing Secondary Section had a stark resemblance to each other. Their faces were shaved clean for charity. Borrowing a philanthropy concept from Australia, the YCIS Beijing male teachers began a sponsored moustache growing campaign to kick-start the month of charity activities dedicated to Seeds of Hope.
The ECE students of YCIS Beijing polished their bikes and hosted a local Chinese bike repair woman to come exhibit basic bike maintenance. The ECE students were gearing up for a sponsored trike-a-thon. Cones were setup inside the ECE foyer and parents sponsored their children as they lapped each other in friendly sport of racing. From the trike-a-thon event, ECE was able to raise RMB 13,800 yuan for Seeds of Hope.
In mid-November the Primary students held a sweets and services sale. Students lined the Hall H room at YCIS Beijing selling cookies, comic books, and massages for a small donation fee. Selling times took place during break times and lunch and in total raised more than RMB 14,786 yuan.
November ended a little more hairy. After the exams week on December 7, the male teachers were each judged by students on the growth of their moustache with the least voted teacher having to adorn their moustache until December 17–school holiday break. The total amount raised for so far for the Seeds of Hope fundraisers is RMB 51,000 yuan.
