Learning Through Play

Children seem to always be playing, whether it be with others, in a sandbox, with dress up clothes or in another way. While parents sometimes worry that children are playing too much, play is actually vital to helping children learn. As children play within different areas of their environment (sandbox, field, pretend house, etc.), their learning process is influenced in different ways. This Infographic takes a look at the different types of play, how they help, and then how a child's cognition and creativity, social skills, and wellbeing are influenced. At YCIS, students are encouraged to play in various kinds of settings, as it is important that students learn through hands-on experiences. By giving children a positive environment to learn in, YCIS is encouraging children to grow both mentally and socially.
