Educational Philosophy

YCIS is committed to offering a global education as evidenced in our history and by major accrediting bodies.

Since 1932, Yew Chung has cultivated an educational philosophy that emphasises:

  • A fully-rounded and balanced education which nurtures the whole child: academically, socially and spiritually;
  • An emphasis on academic excellence, dual language acquisition and the tools for success in a globalised world;
  • A bilingual and multicultural learning environment which fosters respect for diversity;
  • A supportive and nurturing school life which seeks to produce confident, balanced and socially responsible individuals.

YCIS Beijing has been reviewed by accrediting bodies of Council of International Schools (CIS), New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and National Centre for School Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT) for adherence to the YCIS’ philosophy and objectives. Out of over 100 international schools in China, YCIS Beijing is one of only five international schools to hold the prestigious joint accreditations through CIS, NEASC and NCCT.

Commendations from accreditations reports noted:

  • YCIS Beijing on “total commitment to bilingualism and biculturalism in education”.
  • The Early Childhood Education Department for “creating a stimulating, bilingual learning environment that supports the development of the whole child”.
  • The Chinese Department for “enthusiasm and commitment in utilising the culture of China and of the school community to enhance the educational experiences of the students”.
  • The student body praised for “the positive contribution to the nature of the school by actively embracing its philosophy of acceptance and social responsibility”.
  • An overall conclusion of “the entire school community for their fostering of the caring and respectful ethos which is so evident in the school”.
